Weekend Vacation at Hampton Beach
Weekend getaway anyone? Even though spring is around the corner winter still feels in very much here as we shoveled more snow this last week and maybe that has you thinking it is time for a vacation! How about Hampton Beach? I know the beach in the winter time? I'm not crazy it is actually really nice and where I went to escape my winter realities.
So first things first, you can find some really nice places right on the water for a fraction of the price right now. The airbnb I chose to stay in came with everything I needed and was only steps from the beach, would have costed me at least $299 a night in the summer but instead was just around $100 a night. It was awesome!
Next, what about food? All the restaurants are going to be closed in the winter! Don't worry the Flamingo Coffee Bar was open for breakfast and lunch. This place was adorable and had some amazing looking doughnuts. For dinner the Ashworth Hotel has a restaurant and bar inside for anyone to enjoy. But the nice thing about staying in an Airbnb is there is a kitchen! My kitchen came fully equipped for anything I wanted to cook. And don't worry the grocery store was only 10 minutes away, a very easy drive.
But come on what do you do at a beach in the winter time! Well there is a lot to do in the winter at the beach. Imagine walking by the ocean without all the crowds, that is what it is like. I loved walking on the beach looking for seashells with the only other people out there were dog owners and their dogs. If you choose to drive to the beach there is parking everywhere and its free!
Enjoy the views! When there aren't as many people and cars taking up space the views can be amazing! New Hampshire only has 13 miles of coastline and without all the cars and people, this coastline is gorgeous to drive along. Be sure to stop off at the different pull outs and state parks to take in even more views. I enjoyed taking some time to watch the brave surfers catching some waves in the chilly waters.
Enjoy the animals! I'm feather brained and can spend a whole day searching for birds. While I was in Hampton I spent plenty of time searching for them. Staying only 30 minutes away from Parker River National Wildlife Refuge I had to take some time to go birdwatching down there. Sadly it was too cold to see much of anything. Luckily the Refuge does have some very nice boardwalks to wander around on (also some are ADA accessible). While heading back to Hampton I spotted a sign that I had to go check out. It was a Guinea Pig Sanctuary! This place was exciting and sad all at the same time. There were guinea pigs everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE! I could barely move around without bumping into another guinea pig cage. Most of these cute guinea pigs are available for adoption but some are also there to be boarded while their owners are away. The fun part of this whole experience was the staff gave me a bag of carrots and peppers and asked if I would like to give them some treats. Remember if you choose to adopt a guinea pig, they live longer than you think and are a commitment.
Have some fun in Portsmouth! Portsmouth in the summer is crowded with no parking. Portsmouth in the winter is perfect. All the stores are open, so are the restaurants, and you will find parking. Plus some of the stores are having sales right now to be ready for the new summer season.
Finally remember why you took this trip TOO RELAX! So when you are looking for that perfect place to stay be sure to pick a place you can see yourself relaxing in. Bring a good book to read. Watch some awesome movies. Make your stay a relaxing one.
To be ready for this trip I made sure to pack my weighted eye mask for optimum relaxation. I brought my book to read. Of course I binged my favorite TV series. Be sure to pack for appropriately for the weather, winter jacket, long johns, hat and mittens, mud boots (for the beach). I made sure all my things were packed carefully into my duffel bag.
Enjoy the photographs I took from my weekend trip. Do you have a favorite place to travel too?
