Late Winter Sports

Image
With the snow and cold temperatures that we are experiencing this week it is very clear that winter is not over yet. Which means those winter sports you have been avoiding, it is now time to give them a try.       Let's start with cross country skiing. This type of skiing was once described like running with clown shoes on, while trying not to fall over. I have to say as someone who learned how to x-country ski in elementary school then recently started up again, this is such a true statement. You can do everything right and still fall over on the skis. And don't get me started on standing up again!       But we are brave people! So let's start with where to find skis. You want to find skis that are slightly shorter than you are especially if you are a beginner. If you are a beginner you will also want poles for balancing. You want boots that will match your ski latch and your shoe size too. Remember you will be wearing thick ...

New England Ice Castle Adventure

Image
The warmer weather this weekend is making ice fishing a little sketchy but don't worry the Ice Castles are still standing tall! Don't waste another weekend not going on this adventure. Located across the U.S. in New Hampshire, New York, Minnesota, and Utah these are a must see! There was a castle in Wisconsin for about a week but they unfortunately had to shut down after 3 days. Wisconsin Castle experienced a mild January, then after construction there was a major rain storm. All of that caused the Wisconsin Castle to shut down after only a few days. I tell you this story so you know exactly why there is a bit of a rush on going to see these castles, we never know what mother nature is going to give us next.  What can you expect exploring the ice castles in New England? For the adventurous side of you, start off by exploring the castles caverns and archways as you get lost in the magical world of the ice castle. Enjoy your childish side having fun taking the adult sized ice...

Love and Footballs are in the Air

Valentines Day! Superbowl! G-alentines Day! Which are you celebrating? Are you trying to celebrate all three? Me I will enjoy my time knitting while the super bowl plays in the background and of course eat some delicious food. For Valentines Day well I prefer showing love to the ones I care about in small ways, but everything going on does have me thinking about what could be happening in the area.     Let's start with a brand new business called Putnam Vineyard , where I am currently sitting. If you haven't been here you need to stop by. Between their delicious coffee, amazing wine, and vegan cookies this is the place to come for your next date. But what are they doing for Valentines? At 10:00 on Saturday they have Laura's Cookies of Vermont coming in to share her heat shaped cookies with Putnams mimosa flights. If heart shaped cookies isn't your thing then book an appointment with Homegrown Jewelry  and have a custom G-alentines gift created fo...

Avoid the Cold Head to The Tropics!

Image
With a high of 10 degrees tomorrow, and let's face it will we really see 10, it is time to look at something warm to do tomorrow. Now I might just hibernate under my rumpl blanket all day with my national parks book and dream of the future, but if you have kids that isnt an option. I have heard mountains are closing but were you really going skiing tomorrow? What about heading to the tropics? I know, I know who has the money for a 24 hour trip like that! Not me! But let's head to a tropical place and stay warm with tropical creatures. Trust me it's easier than you think.       Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in Deerfield Massachusetts is where we are headed. This magical place is located 5 minutes off of interstate 91 in Western Massachusetts, making it very easy for all to access. Magic Wings is truly magical, especially on a cold day, they keep the conservatory at a humid 80 degrees. Once inside you are surrounded by trees, bushy pl...
